ROTORUA: ADVENTURE CAPITAL OF NEW ZEALAND'S NORTH ISLAND
              by Vicki Hoefling Andersen
I am not ashamed to admit that I screamed. And so did my two compadres. But by the time we reached the bottom of our first arc, our terror had turned to laughter. |

            SAFE CITY CYCLING
by Lynn Rosen

Before you start your city bike ride, plan routes with a preference for wide shoulders or bike lanes and low traffic areas. Check your ABCs - your air, brakes and chain. Also be sure to check your quick release levers on your tires to make sure your bike is safe to ride. |

SKIING AND ADVENTURING WITH TWO NEW KNEES by Larry Turner
A very active lifelong outdoor life led to the circumstance which led to the decision to have my knees replaced. In most of history, there was no alternative. People were stuck with their circumstances and had to live their lives with the unalterable fact of bone-on-bone pain. |

WILD TIMES IN RECKLESS A-BANDON (OREGON) by Lee Juillerat
Whatever the weather, the beaches of Bandon are mesmerizing. Outcrops of tortured rocks, part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge, line the coastline. Depending on the tide, some can be reached along the exposed sandy beach. |

HIKING THE LIVING DESERT ZOO'S NATURE TRAILS IN PALM DESERT, CA by Anne Siegel
One of the lesser-known features of the Living Desert is an adjacent nature preserve that protects more than 1,000 acres of Sonoran Desert. Inside the preserve are three hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty. Hiking is free with Living Desert admission.
