Fifty thousand humans gather every Labor Day on Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to celebrate existence, mortality and immortality. My first visit to the Black Rock was by horseback in 1992 as four companions and I retraced the Southern Route of the Oregon Trail (which includes large sections of the Applegate and California Trails). That first visit was a pilgrimage steeped deeply in landscape solitude. The Black Rock swept me into its humbling embrace. In 2007, I experienced Burning Man for the first time. I stayed on the Edge. I still do. Burning Man is a fascinating experience of art, people, and landscape. Go to www.burningman.com for extended info. I’ll let these photos write their own words. |
