2008 Burning Man Photo Essay

Each year on the bleak and beautiful Nevada Black Rock Desert, nearly 50,000 converge to form Black Rock City and participate in the Burning Man during Labor Day week. The event is better seen live than described--its uniqueness quite unlike anything else that takes place in the world. This year's theme was The American Dream. Art installations, workshops, theme camps and playa events reflected this cultural expression of "almost anything reasonable and many things unreasonable" goes. Burning Man represents the world's largest "instant" city that is built--complete with avenues and boulevards--and taken down within a spcelebrationan of a few weeks, leaving as minimum a trace as possible. It is a City of excess, opulence, spareness, weather elements, and comradeship. The Burning Man structure is burned on Saturday night and the Temple on Sunday evening.
