Getting There: Depending on the U.S. departure city, flights are available to Rome or Milan on Alitalia, American, British Airways, Delta, KLM, Lufthansa, SAS, and TWA. The 1-800 phone numbers and Web links for these airlines are available at this magazine’s Airlines page. Within Italy, flights and trains are available to Pisa and Florence, both only an hour's drive from the heart of Tuscany. Use of an auto is recommended to best access Tuscany's countryside and array of sites. | Staying There: With the broad array
of information available on the Internet, it is relatively straight forward to find villa
or apartment lodging in Tuscany's countryside. We utilized In Italy Online (see links
below) to find and reserve our lodging at Il Grande Prato. Since In Italy Online is based
in Los Angeles, it provides a convenient service for U.S. travelers. All of their property
listings are personally inspected to meet their standards. Be sure to read the customer
comment sections associated with each property which interests you. Other Web sites
provide information on individual lodging accommodations as well (see the Looksmart link
list, below). We utilized to good advantage a number of useful guide books for our stay in Tuscany, including Rick Steves Italy, good for Siena and San Gimignano, Frommer's Italy, and Rough Guide Tuscany and Umbria, which provided a high degree of detail for a broad array of Tuscany towns and sites. |
